inventory management program

Backup copies usually have a short lifetime because the data being backed up frequently changes. When the next backup is made, the old version is overwritten or a new version of the data is produced as a copy. The original data remains in the original location, such as in the production system. The management of the different inventory management program versions is an important function of backup systems. The storage of backup copies is normally not subject to legal requirements. As a result, backup requires an infrastructure that is different from the one for archiving. With backup, the original data is still available in primary storage and can be accessed by the application. Usually a separate backup system is required. In some cases backup is also integrated into the application. The backup system initiates the copying process and manages the metadata as well as the relationship between the original and the copy and between versions.
